Our Story

Origins

AFR was established in 2017 in Ancona, Italy, by African and European students from the MSc in Food and Beverage Innovation and Management program at Università Politecnica delle Marche. The organization was born from a shared vision to address food security challenges by leveraging scientific knowledge and innovation.

Team

The AFR team includes over 50 graduate students from science, engineering, and economics disciplines, with 8 specializing in food science. This diverse group brings together expertise and passion to enhance food systems while preserving cultural heritage and biodiversity.

Aim

AFR aims to revolutionize food production in Africa by focusing on indigenous and traditional food systems. By prioritizing local resources over imported genetics, AFR seeks to protect ecosystems that have evolved over millennia while increasing sustainable food production in African villages.

Our Mission

Our mission is to harness the power of scientific innovation, technological advancements, and human determination to significantly amplify food production within the African village. By focusing on sustainable production systems, we aim to create a seamless connection between the source of food in the village and the hands that ultimately consume it. This approach not only enhances local food systems but also promotes environmental sustainability, economic growth, and the preservation of traditional practices that have been cultivated over generations.
